Business intelligence statistics

As part of business intelligence and data mining, applied statistics provide companies with an important competitive advantage, allowing them to learn more about their customers, operations, products and competitors as well as to anticipate future developments. All too often, data analysis is based solely on descriptive statistics and summary reports, even though the data at hand could be a very rich and many-sided source of information.

Although the idea of applying statistical methods may be off-putting to some, in fact even the use of averages in reporting implies a statistical assumption about a normal distribution, and is thus applied statistics in its simplest form. An average, however, can be misleading, insufficient or in the worst case even an incorrect estimate of the reality which it is trying to quantify. In some cases, for example, a median would be the more appropriate statistic. Sometimes the observed data may be so complex or so enormeous that no reliable information can be extracted from it using basic statistical measures. In these situations, more advanced statistical methods can provide tools for analysing such data, providing both new information as well as the means of testing the reliability of this information.

We have a great deal of experience in applied statistics in a wide range of business sectors, and also have significant expertise using many different analytical tools. We can asses the suitability of a specific analysis software for your needs and can offer you tailor-made training and advanced analytics, using such familiar software as SAS, SPSS, R, SIP or Stata.
